Superflow concept crowned champion at Salon Privé

The incredible 1960 Alfa Romeo 6C CM Pininfarina Superflow IV concept car has been crowned Best of Show at Salon Privé during its first competitive outing on British soil. Set against the stunning backdrop of Blenheim Palace, the one-of-a-kind Alfa faced stiff competition in the Curvaceous  Coupés category, eventually winning its class, the Most Exciting Design award and the Best of Show gong.

One of just 37 ‘covered headlamp’ Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spiders was judged to be the runner up, also topping its class in the Riviera Cruising category. The remarkable 1961 example was restored in the UK in 2012.

Another Ferrari, though slightly more common – being one of 122 examples – also picked up an award. The 1973 365GTS/4 is the last ever UK-delivered, right-hand-drive Daytona Spider. The car had been with its owner for the past 30 years, winning much acclaim from the crowd, which voted the Ferrari to receive the People’s Choice award. Joining the Ferrari was a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400, which took top honours in the Evolution of the Supercar Pin-Ups class shortly after returning from the firm’s in-house restoration team, Polo Storico.

“This year’s event has been one of our most successful and pivotal concours events to-date; a game-changing year, firmly planting Salon Privé on the global concours scene,” said Concours Chairman Andrew Bagley. “I was delighted to present each car and owner with their award, especially the unparalleled Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Pininfarina Superflow IV. The car and owner have travelled from the USA to make their UK concours debut, and it was an honour and a privilege to display it on the Blenheim Palace lawns, among some of the most important collectors in the world.

The event also included the first ever Concours Masters, which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Maranello marque by gathering a host of remarkable examples, including a 1949 Ferrari 166 Inter Coupé – the oldest surviving UK-based Ferrari.
